    March 8 GA Will Focus on Women’s Issues

    The General Assembly of Occupy Boston passed the following proposal on February 25, 2012:

    In recognition of International Women’s Day on Thursday, March 8th, the Women’s Caucus proposes that the General Assembly be an evening focused on Women’s Issues and gender-based differential treatment in the workplace, politics, art and literature, health, education and social spheres, and OB.

    This evening will be organized by the Women’s Caucus and affiliated groups and will begin with 30 minutes of announcements. The regular GA process will be suspended for that night.

    We encourage everyone associated with Occupy Boston as well as new friends to join us this evening.

    OB Supports Action Against ALEC

    The following proposal passed the General Assembly of Occupy Boston on February 25, 2012:

    Occupy groups and more from Connecticut and across southern New England are converging in Groton, CT on the 29th for the national call to action by Occupy PDX against ALEC and its contributing corporations. The #F29 CT organizers would like support (more protesters & an endorsement) from OB.

    On the 29th, we will demand that Pfizer (which has a R & D facility in Groton, CT) stop supporting and contributing to ALEC.

    Participatory Budgeting Comes to GA

    The following proposal was passed at the General Assembly of Occupy Boston on February 25, 2012:

    The Participatory Budgeting Working Group proposes to spend 15 minutes of Tuesday’s GA for a presentation about how the participatory budgeting process will help us transition from a traditional laissez-faire resource allocation system to one that better reflects direct participatory democracy. After the presentation, there will be 15 more minutes for small group discussion.

    GA Approves Agenda-Setting Procedure

    The following proposal passed the Occupy Boston General Assembly on February 23, 2012:

    1. At the start of GA proposal process, all proposers will read a 1-minute summary of their proposal.

    2. The facilitators will call for a straw poll on the non-priority, non-rollover proposals.

    3. The agenda will be set as follows:

    • live rollovers
    • priority
    • rollover
    • order of straw poll

    Proposers are allowed to de-prioritize themselves after the straw poll.

    GA Agrees to Discuss GA

    On Thursday, 2/16/12, Occupy Boston General Assembly agreed to the below proposal, brought forward by Facilitation Working Group.

    FWG Proposal for GA Discussion of Process
    Occupy Boston General Assembly will set aside regular GA business on Tuesday, February 21st for a two-hour community discussion about GA decision-making process and principles. The discussion will address a range of issues that repeatedly come up in GA and in other groups grappling with OB decision-making. Parallel to efforts by other groups working to explore internal dynamics, Facilitation Working Group’s intention is to improve GA process to better reflect the concerns of diverse Occupy Boston groups and help us reach our goals with methods consistent with our values.
