MISSION

We created this network in response to the election. The purpose of these groups is to gather people locally to commit to action items on a range of progressive issues.

To date people from all 50 states and over 150 cities have begun to participate. The response has been massive and inspiring. We want you to participate as well.

AGENDA FOR MEETING

At the meeting we will offer concrete actions you all can take. But more importantly, everyone who wants to will get an opportunity to offer concrete actions of their own. Once we have a list of action items, we will organize groups by action areas with concrete, focused aims. If you already have an organization in place, GREAT! Come tell us about it and sign people up to your group.

Donald Trump’s first few weeks in office have confirmed our worst fears about his Presidency. His Executive Order on immigrants and refugees, his continued insistence on building a wall with our Mexican border, his refusal to tolerate dissenting viewpoints, and many other actions have been chilling, to say the least.

Given this climate, immigrant and refugee communities are understandably afraid. All of us who support an open and welcoming country are upset, unsure about the future, and looking for ways to fight back. Fortunately, we have already seen signs of hope as Mayor Walsh reaffirmed his commitment to Boston as a sanctuary, thousands have turned out to protest, and the courts are challenging the Executive Order on immigration and refugees.

Join us on February 16 to hear from a diverse panel of immigrant and refugee rights organizers, policy experts, and community members including:

• Immigrant, student, and refugee community members
• Musical Guests Sergio Reyes and Myriam Ortiz

Our panelists will talk about their own experiences and perspectives, the outlook for immigration under the Trump administration, the prospects for building movements of solidarity, and concrete ways we can get involved.

Massachusetts progressive folks,

This coming Monday the Massachusetts legal community will stand against Trump.

There are two events, one in Boston and one in Springfield, being organized by the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild, Black and Pink, GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders, and others.

Although these rallies are focused on the legal community, all allies are, of course, welcome.

We are lawyers, paralegals, law students, legal workers, court interpreters, investigators, social service advocates, and others who labor in the courts, who wish to express our solidarity with the growing movements against the Trump regime and its dangerous agenda. We recognize that these movements didn’t begin on January 20th, and we still have a long way to go. We stand in support of our hard won constitutional protections, for human rights, the rule of law, and the survival of our planet. We stand in solidarity with frontline communities, and those of our brothers and sisters who so far have been Trump’s primary targets – women, immigrants, Muslims and LGBTQ+ people. When we stand together, we are stronger. When we fight, we win.

In response to the Trump Administration’s announced Muslim ban, CAIR Massachusetts is holding a protest in Copley Square at the site of the Khalil Gibran Plaque – Gibran was an immigrant from Lebanon. At 2:30 pm there will be a Muslim prayer in the Square. All are encouraged to attend – please spread widely!
