At 2:00pm the Boston May Day Coalition will meet inside the Community Church of Boston (565 Boylston St, right by Copley Square) to set our agenda for the coming months. We will discuss the urgent case of Siham Byah who was recently deported, the Poor People’s Campaign, and set a timeline of events including MLK Day, International Women’s Day, and May Day 2018. Free Leonard Peltier Stand-Out As Part Of First Night Against The Wars December 31st -2-3PM-Boston Public Library Steps Across From Copley Square Plaza

It is expected to be very cold the afternoon of Dec 31st so all supporters of the long-time AIM activist Leonard Peltier should, if possible try to make this hour if you can do any hour that First Night Against The Wars event -if not keep this righteous brother in your thought for the coming year.

We demand freedom for Leonard Peltier!

Native American activist Leonard Peltier has spent over 40 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. He was one of the people convicted of killing 2 FBI agents in a shoot-out on the Pine Ridge Reservation on June 26, 1975. The others who were convicted with him have long since been released. Prosecutors and federal agents manufactured evidence against him (including the so-called “murder weapon”); hid proof of his innocence; presented false testimony obtained through torturous interrogation techniques; ignored court orders; and lied to the jury.

In spite of his unjust imprisonment and terrible personal situation, being old and sick and likely to die in jail, he writes every year to the participants at the National Day of Mourning, which is held by Natives in Plymouth, MA in place of Thanksgiving, offering wishes for the earth and all those present and gratitude for the support he receives. That is also a good site for info about the National Day of Mourning and the campaign against Columbus Day and in favor of Indigenous Peoples Day.

Sometimes people claim that the US does not have political prisoners, but Leonard Peltier has been in prison for a very long time and even the FBI admits that they do not know who killed those FBI agents. If Leonard Peltier dies in prison, it will be one of the worst miscarriages of justice in this country’s long history of injustice.

Plimoth Plantation Workers to Present Petition Supporting Union: Over 1,000 Signatures Have Been Collected In Support of Union Efforts to Improve Workplace Conditions

PLYMOUTH, MA, November 21, at 6pm SAMP will hold a photo opportunity at Plymouth Rock to announce their petition drive in support of their efforts to gain a fair contract. After almost a year at the negotiating table, museum management at Plimoth Plantation has yet to reach a contract with workers who voted to unionize last November. The Society of Allied Museum Professionals (SAMP, UAW Local 2320) represents Wampanoag and Colonial Historical Interpreters, artisans in the museum’s Craft Center, as well as Maintainers. SAMP wants to address issues of job insecurity, low wages, dangerously low staffing levels, and health and safety concerns. In person and online, SAMP has collected over 1,000 signatures, which it plans to deliver to museum management on Thanksgiving.

Through its petition drive, SAMP hopes to show the community’s support for Plimoth Plantation workers. As the holiday weekend approaches, the workers of Plimoth Plantation seek the respect they deserve by reaching a contract with museum management. The workers of Plimoth Plantation will continue with courage the fight for a fair contract, better working conditions, and a living wage.

We Will Not Leave Our Sister Behind-Don’t Prosecute The Canary

Winner, a recent Air Force veteran, has been charged under the Espionage Act, a 100-year-old statute originally designed for spies and saboteurs aiding foreign governments in time of war, for allegedly giving a document vital to the public’s understanding of potential Russian interference in U.S. election systems to a news organization. She faces up ten years and a $250,000 fine. She is now scheduled for trial in Augusta, Georgia in March, 2018.

The charge against Winner is grossly disproportionate to her alleged offense, and is designed to create a chilling effect on investigative journalism by dissuading sources from sharing information that is critical to the public interest. We are dedicated to raising public awareness of Winner’s case especially since the federal magistrate judge down in Augusta denied her bail-again last month (which is being appealed)- and in light of the U.S. government’s persistent abuse of the Espionage Act to silence its critics and stifle journalism.

As many of you know, we’ve been going to the Governor’s office for the past two months, asking him to block new fossil fuel projects before the end of the UN climate conference (COP23) on November 18th.

In total, over 350 people from a broad coalition of groups and individuals have visited the office in-person with this request over the past two months.

After six of us refused to leave last Wednesday, the Governor was finally forced to respond in the media. He said, when it comes to things like energy policy, “we don’t take options off the table.”

So we are coming back, again, to explain that if you are serious about climate change then fracked gas is not an option. Fracked gas threatens our health, our communities, and our climate. More fracked gas projects need to be off the table.

We will meet inside the State House at 12:00 Noon (arrive early if you can), where we will recount where we’ve been, where we are, and why we need Governor Baker to lead now, before giving him one final chance to lead before the end of COP23.

As this will represent our final plea to Governor Baker to seize this critical leadership moment and define his climate legacy, this time, we’ll be staying in the State House until it closes.

We know some of you only have an hour of your time to give, others may have 2 or 3 or 4 hours. You are welcome (and encouraged!) to stay with us for as long or as little as you are able.
