Will facilitators and/or the food group be present in Dewey Square before 6pm? I have a few things I gathered up (i.e. bagels, large trash bags).
Dear Occupy Boston,
Frankly, your protest of “thousands” is scaring me. I just want to go home and get away from you people. If this is your idea of opening a discussion, you are sorely mistaken. This is nothing but a campaign of fear mongering and alienation of the very people who should be your allies.
Well Jessica at least you have a home to go to. You’ll be next, when the takers have taken everything they can from the weak, they start eating the bigger fish. What will you do then?
What would you suggest to do Jessica?
can we show up after 6pm ?
I’m not kidding when I say, to all you protesters:
Khakis and a polo. Wear them. The media will put the one scrawny kid in a raggy T-shirt with dreadlocks on camera as your de facto ambassador to The News. Imagine if he was wearing kakhis and a polo. Suddenly he looks credible to people over 40.
I’m not saying the scrawny kid with a T-shirt and messy hair isn’t credible. I’m saying the people you NEED to reach don’t trust his image. But man oh man do they trust khakis and a polo. Wear it.
Can we give the khakis and polos a rest and realize we need wool or synthetic base layers and waterproof outerlayers as our smart chic outfits for the world? It’s raining and cold.
Pick a coherent message, and stick with it. A general “we are angry at the government” won’t change anything.
Jessica, stop your silly whining and wake the hell up! You should be more afraid of the cops than a group of peaceful protesters. Sit back and keep your head buried in the sand while those scary protesters are standing up against corruption, lies and greed. SHAME on YOU.
Let’s load up the picnic basket with wine and cheese. This beats watching tv. I will munch on some chips while we see these losers being clubbed and maced by the law abiding forces.
This will be just like watching 300 spartans. sit back and relax while we enjoy watching the forces of good (law abiding forces) versus the mutant monsters (demostrators) clash over wine and cheese.
Drinking wine in the park is against the park regulations, and possibly local code.
Keep laughing asshole, you won’t be when they come for you. Oh yeah, you can go fuck yourself too. Let me guess, a broker? a banker? No wait, your either a brainwashed, clueless idiot or your that scumbag piece of shit 1% who never has to worry about feeding your family. Go take a cruise in your Lexus and choke on that cheese.
i hope all of you communists get what you deserve…. taxes… taxes and more taxes. Let’s increase your tax rates especially your christmas bonus. In this way, the politburo can feast this holiday season. So you are against capitalism… huh? Guess who will have the last laugh if you get somebody like Stalin or Nikita K. to persecute hippies like you.
Poor Tricotomos, doesn’t know he or she is a self-parody. Times have changed. Take three steps forward.
Will this still be going Tuesday night or Wednesday?
What plans are there for inclement weather? I doubt many people would be interested in staying out in a cold rain without tents. Plans to move into the huge open spaces of South Station perhaps?
don’t feed the trolls
These rude comments NEED TO STOP! If you don’t agree with what we are doing then that’s fine. No one is asking you to participate or doing anything. We aren’t hurting you. We’re simply seeking a positive change. So if you have nothing nice to say, kindly just shut the fuck up.
For this to be a movement that LASTS plans must be made to move indoors when the weather becomes really bad as it certainly will soon. There is plenty of empty space inside various buildings in Boston. Who knows, there might even be an owner who is sympathetic to the idea of overthrowing the oligarchical takeover of the American democracy. What we DON’T need is a movement that either peters out or gets co-opted by the media. People think that the left in the United States has become flaccid. This movement has to show that is not the case. Polls show that the majority of the population now realilzes that the present system is dysfunctional, corrupt, and works only to benefit the tiny few at the top. That majority is now looking for leadership. This movement MUST NOT FAIL!
Hey guys I’ve got a proposal written up, which outlines some ideas and strategies for ending the Media Blackout. I need to disseminate the .doc files so that we can circulate them among the media and tactical groups as the GA. These projects are small, and it would be easy to get groups working on projects targeting the media as they are currently oppressing the movement through corrupt journalism. We’ve got to lift the blackout somehow.
Here is a brief description of what I am calling: Operation Lime Light. This is basically what is in the .doc file, so if you email before the GA tonight I can email it to you, and you can print it. Of course you could also just copy paste this comment and print that. – I believe it is in the best interest of the movement to get going on this. I have tried to check for errors. If you find any, or believe you could make this statement better. Please adjust it as necessary. Thank you
I’m here, in solidarity with you, to suggest a plan of action to counter act the Main Stream Media blackout, dismissal, and oppressively false journalism coverage that is taking place as this movement unfolds. I observe that it is imperative to strike back at the media so that the movement can gain more recognition, clarity, and support.
We have got to move on the Media Companies simultaneously. We have got to come up with committees and splinter cells dedicated to holding the media companies accountable for their responsibility to us as a people living in a free and open society. Hopefully in the after math we can work towards ending corporate and privately owned media all together.
Here are the two main strategies or approaches to the problem that I suggest.
1. The major media companies all across the world are currently printing false and misleading articles in an attempt to dismiss what is actually taking place. Some of their tactics include falsifying figures, inciting class prejudice, and of course simply ignoring or blocking what is happening all together.
This has to stop. –We need people to collect all of the false information and record the publications and daily activities of these people in private, undisclosed data collection facilities and hard drives. The more the better. Get onto their websites at the local level, and at the national level. – Start a facebook group dedicated to collecting this false data. This is step one.
2. We have to create a counter media campaign on line via Youtube, Vimeo, Google, Yahoo, Facebook, etc. We’ve got to make videos aimed at exposing how the corporations DO in fact, control the media, and ARE ACTUALLY using it to falsely portray the movement as weak, or insignificant.
In order to effectively do this, I believe we will need to network and reach out the upper middle class, by this I mean those just below the 1% who are currently so comfortable, they are not helping us out of self interest or are just being lazy. We have to remind all celebrities, local and national, that it is because of us that they exist as they do, and that we deserve their help and support. We will also need the help of Educational authorities, Independent Journalists, and Media Technicians to accomplish this goal.
I am suggesting that we target specifically at the local level in protests, and at the national level over media and social outlets that are available. Do you know a celebrity who is in support but not public about it. We need their help. They must be made to realize that we are working for a better world to live in. We are constantly seeing celebrities speak out against atrocities, yet now in the time when their fans; and even people who are suffering in this world, are crying out against the same injustices that the celebrities supposedly fight. We need to shake them out of their comfort zone. They have computers and cameras, and money, and they can afford to make a stand with us. It is imperative that we all participate and speak out. 99%
Here are the names of some media companies who are currently trying to blackout the Occupy movement.
CNN Boston.com
The New York Times The Los Angeles Times
The New Yorker, Fox News
NBC Al Jazeera
NPR WBUR
The Boston Herald Clear Channel …There are many more.
There is a possibility that some of these companies have employees who would like to participate, and engage us, but are afraid to become involved. Because they work for the media they are paid well, and kept quite comfortable.
Many of them may have become comfortable, complacent, and largely removed from the conditions that the lower income citizens are facing everyday. They have money and debt, but there are different issues that they are dealing with. You must approach them with this in mind. Remind them that we don’t want to be better than tem; we want to be equal. We want equal chances. It is not about money. It’s about health of mind and body. They might rebut, that we’d had our chance. This is why we need the Educational System and Academics to employ what Marcus Aurelius called “the Logos,” in support of each other, and the goal of equality.
Some celebrities that run or support charities should be made aware of the magnitude of this movement, and courted to our cause. Here in Boston, – we might start with: Television Hosts, Movie Makers, Celebrities, etc. We have to remind them that if things go on the way they are we won’t afford to watch movies, or have television programming. We won’t be able to afford schools. In addition, remind them that to have our demands met we will form committees and actively attempt to boycott all projects seeking to profit from “entertainment.” This is not the time to sit and watch television. This is not the time to go to the movies. This is the time to act.
Now, get out there. Talk to the TV hosts, the Anchors, the Actors, and Comedians and Writers. Let them know that we’re not laughing anymore, and we could really use their support morally, publicly and financially. I suspect we’ve all looked up to some of them at times because it felt as though they are making a stand. However, in the past few days I have monitored mainstream coverage of the protests closely. It has been weak. We need a cavalry.
Are all of you comedians, actors, actresses, and writers afraid of losing your jobs or the lives you’ve built? – How much would it really take to support your family modestly, and why couldn’t that be enough. If we don’t change this country immediately, there will be nothing left to laugh at,. If we do change it, there is no way any of you will ever be thought of with respect or admiration again. Help Us.
