On the evening of November 20, 2011, the General Assembly of Occupy Boston reached consensus on the following proposal:
Proposal from the Indigenous Solidarity and Outreach Working Group to attend the National Day of Mourning in Plymouth on November 24th
Background:
The Indigenous Solidarity and Outreach Working Group seeks funds to cover transportation costs associated with bringing a group of 20-40 people from the Occupy/Decolonize Boston community to attend the National Day of Mourning in Plymouth on November 24th. The Working Group is organizing a carpool and simply seeks funds to cover fuel expenses.
In response to the Statement of Solidarity with Indigenous Peoples passed by the GA on October 8th, the United American Indians of New England (UAINE) have formally endorsed the Occupy/Decolonize movement and invited members of the Occupy/Decolonize Boston community to “stand with them” on this “solemn, spiritual and highly political day.” Every year since 1970, Native people and their supporters have come together to refute the mythology of the Pilgrims and declare the US thanksgiving holiday a National Day of Mourning for Native Americans.
This event will present a unique opportunity for members of Occupy/Decolonize Boston to stand in solidarity and most importantly, listen to Native voices with humility and respect. It will also be an opportunity to establish connections with individuals in the hopes of bringing more Native voices into the movement.
Proposal:
The Indigenous Solidarity and Outreach Working Group will receive reimbursement for fuel costs associated with travel to and from Plymouth on November 24th, with a maximum cumulative amount of $300.
Clarification:
The group will already be using its $100 weekly budget allowance to purchase food to be cooked the night before for the pot luck social which takes place after the event.

If you were wondering why the poor often don’t show up in great numbers to support the Occupy groups, here is your answer. A homeless man explains the reality of life on the street. You don’t want to hear this.

Hey… thanks for the link. The crux of it is that the truly destitute want action not words. They want to see something that is real, flesh and blood, true progress. I’ve worked with the homeless before and theorizing about a solution to hunger, for instance, doesn’t cut it. The homeless also have to navigate through all sorts of crap just to survive and they have a great BS detector. What is more rife with BS than a typical GA?
A homeless drug addict, kicked out @ 12yr old for comic books, once a manager of the oh so evil Wal-Mart, that obviously helped to turn him into the homeless person he is today. I call Bullshit.
Bull crap detector went off on that story and keeps sounding alarm. The smug self righteous events such as national day of mourning, vegan pot luck dinners, etc.. are pretty much what I thought about this from the start, but i am curious , with such extreme leftists events, comments; which part of the 99% are you trying to reach? My father a life long democrat was listening to the radio when he heard about the national day of mourning instead of Thanksgiving only said” these people are sick!’ when I told him what a vegan pot luck dinner was he shook his head and said” I think I have to become a Republican.”. …. National day of mourning, you have to be high.
My family was there for that first Thanksgiving. I do like the idea of doing something like this. But all this moral arrogance coming out of Occupy Boston is not a solution. The October 8th General Assembly resolution was passed in an atmosphere of intimidation with a supporter of the resolution screaming into the microphone. If Occupy Boston was around in the 1600s do you think they would have been any kinder? Can you imagine these people who go on about the Boston Police raid last month and are always so moralizing being able to see the situation from the other’s point of view in a situation like early America where real atrocities are sometimes committed against them? And where are they now when the weak need their support? Occupy Boston would never stand in solidarity with children against the teacher’s union or with mental patients against the nurse’s union. As the priest in Herzog’s Aguirre, Wrath of God says, “The church has always been on the side of the strong.”
Give OB a break–there is nobody else even trying to pierce the veil of false appearances when it comes to the violence done to the Original Americans and the traditional tendency to ignore it and stuff ourselves with turkey. This is a sincere effort to recognize reality. If you study your history, you know that the initiators of any change always tend toward extremes. A little shouting at a GA doesn’t ruffly my feathers. As for your last line–since when has the OCCUPY movement been in any way aligned with “the church.” Sounds like a statement Occupy Boston would agree with wholeheartedly and can use to back this very event you decry.
And it says a lot about you to imagine with whom “Occupy Boston would never stand in solidarity with…” I think they would.
Celebrate Thanksgiving? For one, it has been so commercialized, they are already playing Christmas music. And yes, there was world travel even before Columbus, the guy who slaughtered for profit, and lied to the Queen….about land he had not even been to, as having been discovered already. He came upon this continent, by accident. The Vikings were here, long before him, and a white blue-eyed race was wiped out be the Cherokee in Tennessee, before they moved in. Look, reality is, humans are barbaric, so why not try something different? Like recognize, the harm caused to the Native Americans, and how it has affected their way of life, and still is being affected, as tribes to this very day, are victims of genocide. Still being forced into relocation, as big corporations are still taking advantage, lying/stealing/polluting as usual. I for one, will be there…to mourn the loss of so many lives/a way of life…being close to “Nature” as we were meant to be. Have you noticed the trees dying? because of Chemtrails. Watch..”What In The World Are They Spraying?” Hear the Geo-engineerists in their own words, talk of dropping 3 billion metric tons of aluminum from the skies. It’s killing all biological nutrients that support plant life. Half the migratory birds are dead already. And what else? Like you are not next? They must be stopped from spraying…before all that lives is dead!
Stay on point campers. Get the corporations out of politics and vice versa. The fringe is a disease. Dick and Jane love thanksgiving. A lot folks will be home watching the tube and maybe crazy uncle jailbird Joey will say”hey whatdya think about the occupiers?”. Some people can’t get behind you because you got your hands in too many baskets.
Focus.
So get groups of people you don’t like out of politics. Great argument, fascist.
I wouldn’t define myself as a fascist. Not sure where you got that. Didn’t they kick you off of here for some overtly racist comments? Even I, who is not fully behind this movement, have to agree that something has to be done about our political/economic situation.
You guys are so amazingly politically incompetent. Seriously – you don’t have a bloody agenda yet, but you’ll dance off to Plymouth to rip on one of the most important of American holidays? You clearly don’t want the average person to support your movement.
And I hate to burst your bubble, but the tribes that lived in this area were not paragons of virtue. They fought wars, raped, looted, much like all civilizations. What was done to them was unjust and reprehensible, but occurred literally hundreds of years ago. But Occupy Boston can’t even deal with the problems of today, so I’m uncertain why any Native American would want your support.
It’s going to be fun watching what happens when the snow comes. Who will back your movement? What will you have accomplished besides stroking your own egos? Occupy Boston seems destined to be nothing more than scarring on the parkway. God in Heaven, how amazingly inept you all are.
Ah yes, more hippies spitting on American history./
Remember kids: all non-whiteys never did anything wrong. It’s always whitey’s fault.
lol liars.
Anyone see the Metro article today? Seems the Former King of the New Panther Party has is disenchanted with the white folks at Occupy. Say they racist… say he want OB to give Hood 2000 dollars for outreach… say it extortion because nothing liberal whiteys hate more than be called racist… you gots your womyn… you gots your racism… and you also gots some punk taking y’all to court for naming rights…
Face it. You stick to the real message and you got something. Spread too thin and try to sympathize and whine your way into the favor of the Hoodwinkers and you can never do enough.
It’s become a circus in the press and you guys have no idea how to combat it because you don’t know a damn thing about how to navigate the media. That’s where the real battle is. It’s not in the streets, it’s in the papers, on the web, etc…
Real unfortunate
Hilarious.
Meanwhile, while they talk about American history and events that happened 200 years ago, some people are trying to feed the Occupy Boston right now. Check out the Occupy Thanksgiving site and help cook some food on Thanksgiving so that Occupy Boston can at least have a hot meal on that day: http://tinyurl.com/occupythanksgiving
