Occupy Boston achieved consensus on the following proposal in the General Assembly of November 12th, 2011:
Occupy Boston stands in solidarity with MAAPL against predatory lending and illegal foreclosure processes. Currently, Massachusetts allows mortgage companies to operate on the honor system. These corporations have proved themselves to be less than honorable and should be brought into court to prove ownership of the mortgages they seek to collect.
Furthermore, these corporations should not be allowed to arbitrarily evict people from their homes, leaving vacant homes that not only damage the families affected but also the neighborhoods at large.

Here is an idea to expand the Occupy movement without provoking police problems. In my town of Falmouth (pop 30,000 in winter) we occupy Bank of America for an hour on Wed and Sat afternoons. No tents, no food, no police, no problem. But we spur the dialogue that has to happen.
Permanent occupancy in the heart of a city will doubtless end in cries of police brutality – but guys – the police are not the problem!!!! Let’s not make it one. Fan out to the neighborhoods and organize temporary occupancies in every corner of the country.
We have to drill it into the heads of the bonus class that they can’t rip off the rest of us without us noticing!
If people paid their obligations, there would be no foreclosures
“arbitrarily evict people from their homes”
Doesn’t this process begin with non payment of an obligation by the borrower?
Robo signing is an amazing phenomenon to be sure, but the entire foreclosure process begins with the borrower ending payment-
Mile wide/inch thick
Arbitrary eviction is directly caused by arbitrary decision to stop payment on loans by borrower.
But at least your message is consistent – the 99% shall not be personally responsible for…anything.

Senka- Who owns the home that becomes foreclosed?
Why does the foreclosure process begin in the first place?
Why do you have a blog about the subject? I’ll venture to guess its because you’ve recently ‘lost’ your home to so called ‘illegal foreclosure’- am I right?
I read through some of the comments on your blog- and frankly-when I read ‘If you really want to learn about the biggest mortgage/financial fraud you can read either this blog or thousand of others; but, somehow I have a feeling that you won’t’ I wanted to throw up.
Blogs have the answers ? No, blogs have nothing to be accountible for. I sincerely hope you get your personal situation sorted out with minimal impact- but that blog is a disaster.
“How can you advise your constituents to go to mediation with the lenders who at least 80% of the time doesn’t even own their mortgage?”
Where is that 80% statistic from?
“So what I would advise is that we should have a different type of mediation bill: we, the homeowners, should mediate with the bankers regarding how much jail time they should get!”
if you owned the home, you wouldn’t have a loan-
“homeowners”
Homeowner = unless owned, is actually ‘home borrower’
“He is still in his house, but the price he paid and is still paying is very high” – what’s his arguement exactly?
Sure there has to be accountability on the part of the borrower but surely more responsibility should lie with the lender given their position and experience in their field. And also who made the house prices rise so quickly and so high. A home is a basic need, people will do what it takes to put a roof over their families heads. It shouldnt be allowed to be comodetized and lenders should take some of the risk. If they stood to lose the asset if the deal was faulty then they might not make so dodgy loans. But to off at a tangent methinks another excuse would be used to initiate this sequence of events even if housing market had been ok. Have you seen what’s happening in Europe. Farcical in the extreme. You should pay attention as the same trick will be used in US. Funny thing is it’s so obvious.
Who should be more responsible for the loan not going bad?
What’s never really discussed anymore was people ‘fibbing’ on their mortgage apps
Why did house prices skyrocket? Mostly due to supply /demand , sprinkle in some hype and a nice serving of ‘safe investments’ post 9/11 when the money flew out of the stok market.
Homes are basic needs- yes
Some folks should be renting- ownership used to be something special because the borrower clearly had their ‘house in order’. The ability to take on 30 years worth of debt was something to be proud of. Lessening lending restrictions hampered that beyond repair.
Which thing in Europe? They have several balls in the air
