Occupy Boston Stands with Workers against “Super Committee” Cuts!
11:00 AM, Wed, Nov. 9th, at The Wang Theater
(270 Tremont St., Boston, MA)
The Super Committee, which includes MA Senator John Kerry, is meeting behind closed doors to decide how to cut $1.5 Trillion from federal spending by November 23. Cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and other social programs crucial to the 99% are expected to be made by a “committee” appointed by a government bought and paid for by the 1%. Cuts to social services would most severely affect those already most oppressed by the system: the poor, elderly, youth, people of color, LGBTQ… Join the Boston area labor movement to say stop the cuts! Fund jobs and social services for the 99%!
Labor Co-Sponsors so far include:
1199SEIU; AFGE District 2; Boston Building and Construction Trades Council; Community Labor United; GALLAN; Greater Boston Labor Council; IBEW Local 2222; IBEW Local 103; IUE-CWA Local 201; MA AFL-CIO; Massachusetts Building Trades Council, AFL-CIO; MA Jobs with Justice; Mass Nurses Association; Mass Teachers Association; NAGE; North Shore

I’m sorry but there has been no consensus on OB being against balancing the budget. In order to say “Occupy Boston Stands with Workers against “Super Committee” Cuts!”, there must be consensus, which I’m pretty sure there wouldn’t be considering that many, many people in the 99% and in our movement think that budget cuts are necessary for the continued function of our country.
was it voted on at GA?

Oh, you don’t get it? It’s the name of an event submitted by Labor Outreach Working Group. They don’t need to get the name of the event approved in GA. If you’ve got nothing better to do besides troll there are some dishes that need washing, FYI.
I think it’s a fair point. OB claims to represent me. Usage of the good name of OB should be contingent upon agreement that its usage is in line with those OB claims to represent. If I didn’t get a say in the usage of the name of OB then OB is no longer representing me.
I thought I’ve heard it all. OB people dealing and doing drugs ( not a surprise). But stealing services from the homeless (meals and showers) ?!!!! How lowlife can you get? I guess if your not living in your parents basement stealing food and board from them, you have to steal it from somebody. Good way to Occupy and waste more recourses.
Wow. I really don’t get why people like you are here. If you don’t agree why not just let people get on with it. If it doesn’t have support it won’t work and if it does it will, no matter what you say. Does trolling make you feel better? Like your taking one for the man? Negativity has no place in the modern world among educated people. It is the domain of the imbecile.
Funny thing is- I don’t get why you are here either.
I realize that my comments come off as anti- OWS, but the truth is I just want more out of the ‘movement’-
Do you see yourself as in support or anti OWS? Because honestly- i have read your posts- and I have no idea.
Negativity has no place in the modern world? It’s a reality- Your posts have been nowhere close to ‘uplifting’.
Please don’t read as me defending that guy^, but how you can put that much effort (two posts in 3 minutes) into it says plenty.
I cant work out if your plain clueless or just a right wing Christian type. Could be either or both. Do you have anything intelligent to say so we may better understand your grievance.
I’m not Christian but I am right leaning. And yet I’m here because I’m fiscally conservative, believe in mutual dignity, etc., but please, man, mind your manners (mine get out of hand on occasion, so I know of where I speak):
“Plain clueless or just a right wing Christian type…”
“Negativity has no place…”
Come on, Geronimo, you contradict yourself and you, my friend, are not Whitman.
The real concern with the super committee is that it’s unconstitutional and puts more power in the hands of the even fewer. Whatever they come up with can only be voted up or down in congress… and even if they vote it down, the president can still sign it into law.
Talk about oligarchy.
The one-party system is going to be the death of us all.
Ok. I accept your criticism. It was of course completely contradictory. In my defense it was not aimed at either of you but to the garbage hate post previous. I will mind my manners in future. except when provoked.
Fair enough. I can see your point. Funny enough I have exactly the same issue in that I want more from it and things are happening that I believe are not helping. I can hardly be judged by responses to trolls and I never aimed any post at you. As far as I know. It of course is contradictory, sarcastic etc but what do you expect when people are posting garbage with no relevance. This should be an open debate and everyone should be heard but abusive baseless posts should be challenged. That also applies to me and I have never meant to offend anyone who wasn’t being offensive in the first place. If I have I apologize.
Hey, Occupy Whatever, go home, your nanny is getting worried about you.
Stealing food from the homeless, You OBers sicken me.
Hey all, I fully support occupy, am in the process of organizing a student group at my school and have visited the site a number of times. I just wanted to mention something about the Rally against Michelle Rhee….
Although her Students First movement in a threat to Unions, supported by the Occupy Movement, the goals of her programs benefit the nations educational system greatly. She is merely asking that teachers are fired during budget cuts based on effectiveness rather than seniority, that educators work together to create more effective programs for using the budgets allotted them rather than waiting for more money from the government that may never come. Education policies can be really obscure issues so I just wanted to post the website for the Students First movement in case people wanted to know a little more about what they are rallying against. Unions are great things when they are used correctly, but I would hate to see Occupy take any grief for supporting the aspect of teachers unions that allows ineffective and burnt out to keep their jobs while effective teachers are left JOBLESS due to budget cuts.
StudentsFirst.org
Yes, teachers should have the same ‘pay for performance’ or ‘jobs for performance’ that we all have out there in the corporate world. Som of the best educational systems according to a CNN piece I watched recently are in South Korea and Finland and both have highly capable teachers, with masters degrees and who don’t get complacent based on seniority that their jobs are safe. That all made sense to me and I am not for the Unions that protect lazy, bad teachers…This is what’s great about the Occupy movement, we have Arnie Fein on the right and Geronimo supporting the cause. I am an Independent social liberal and fiscal conservative.

Everyone should read this article: http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=13833
The 1% is not the enemy.
I don’t think they are the enemy, just think the greed is way overboard. There should be more thought up there at the top of most large corporations about how to grow the company and profit responsibly so that laying off employees is not taken so lightly. We are human resources but also human beings and as long as you are a top performer but still have to worry about keeping your job because now you make too much money and HR will just come and crosses your name off a list cause now you are paid too much because you added value and performed too well…and your job is then replaced with either someone offshore or someone just out of college. All these layoffs…no big deal, but such impact to so many families…it is sad. All this while underperforming CEOs are making a bundle. So tired of it.
Dear Human Being,
I feel the occupy movement does have a basic underlying message; Stop letting money decide political elections; And regulate corporate lobbying (and all lobbying) making it a public forum. Right now lobbying is mostly two old white guys sitting across from each other in an office. “They” probably used to work with each other or went to the same school; And “they” have promised you a job when you get out of politics, — tripling your present salary!. The “lobbyist” used to be a “politician”, it worked for him!. Who owns who? – That’s a Person-hood.
My friend and I put on a protest in Olympia for World Can’t Wait Oct. 5, 2006 at the capitol. Here are some photos…

I also coordinated and promoted a protest in Bellevue when Bush was there.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPoWphQhdm0&NR=1
Happy to say both worked out without arrest, injury or property damage! I worked with the Washington State Patrol in Olympia, and Bellevue Police beforehand, and we pretty much understood the rules of engagement. Medina police were not good partners..
I lived in the Glenn Hotel in downtown Seattle when the WTO protests happened. It happened at my front door. I was a part of it, promoting it, and involved in it. There is something going on, and I am going to be a part of it again. I have helped organize and promote protests in Bellevue, Olympia, and Seattle Washington; another big one is coming. I feel it will be a “WTO” sized protest in multiple cities.
“I” was at the WTO protests in Seattle Washington, (with thousands of “other” really awesome “people”, and a few “freaks”) when a bunch of “anarchists” started busting windows with crowbars. We surrounded them, and they got in a circle with their crowbars. I tried to get the “Seattle police” to come arrest “these anarchists”, that were only fifty feet away and threatening violence and breaking windows… The “Seattle police” would not budge from their “police line”, making all of “us” the “enemy”…. (There were thousands of “union” and “other” people sitting and standing in the street, – it was a relativly peaceful protest until the windows started breaking…). ” I” am not the “enemy”.
I will be in Seattle at 700 Stewart street at the Federal courthouse January 20th, 2012!!! I know we can do this better than last time.
The Corporate Occupation of the United States
Our corporate controlled government (through corporate lobbying and election funding ) is out of the peoples control. People want government control back. Makes sense to me… I feel US corporate capitalism (corporatism) is a type of economic fascism: To have a corporate being where the chain of command eventually muddles all responsibility to any human being. These corporate beings are running your life, and controlling your government. (Enough to really make an individual mad and protest.) In reality, the corporate being does not exist, and when it comes to face it’s corporate responsibility, it is a piece of paper. (Or a CEO saying; “I do not recall that”, “I did not have that information”, “that was not my responsibility, I was running the company, and not just that department”,,, and on and on. It has bred a corporate culture of abuse, because they keep getting away with it..), Corporate person-hood is plain and simply wrong: A corporation is not a human being. Restore capitalism to individual responsible chains of command, or this struggle will be lost.
Please Sign the petition to amend the Constitution for revoking corporate personhood at:

(I feel January 20th, 2012: will be a bigger day in US history than WTO in Seattle. The battle continues, rage against the machine is real.)
January 20, 2012 – Move to Amend Occupies the Courts!
Move To Amend is planning bold action to mark this date — Occupy the Courts — a one day occupation on Friday January 20, 2012, of the Federal Courts, including the Supreme Court of the United States and as many of the 89 U.S. District Court Buildings as we can. Inspired by Dr. Cornell West, who was arrested on the steps of the Supreme Court last month, Move to Amend will lead the charge on the judiciary which created — and continues to expand — corporate personhood rights.

That Social Security and Medicare cuts would even come up just shows how differently the 1% and the 99% are treated.
If SS and Medicare primarily benefited corporations and the rich, they would be talking about cutting SS and Medicare taxes, not cutting SS and Medicare benefits.
