Occupy Melbourne is facing several arrest charges after the police raided their camp earlier this evening. The CBD entered the camp armed with riot gear and proceeded to block in protesters using a barricade in order to keep citizens from entering or exiting the campsite. There were several reports of police assaulting protestors.
Along with Melbourne, Occupy Cincinnati is also facing the threat of eviction tonight after the 10 pm closing time for Piatt Park. The Cincinnati Police Department is arresting protestors as we speak while their companions chant “The people united will never be divided” and “Who do you serve? Who do you protect?” You can watch their livesteam here. Please also donate to their legal defense fund!

The brutality with which the police are clamping down, continuing to hold the general populace under there boot, transforming this nation into a police state where the police have every legal authority to pick you up, frisk and search you, beat you, and make you follow their orders is truly alarming.

This is a peaceful movement. One love.
.
All we ask is that the playing field be levelled for we the 99%.

Look where capitalism has landed us. Dirt poor with a boot on our head.

We need socialism or a light form of communism NOW.
And the secret police that come with them? KGB Lite?
What do we have now. The KGB don’t compare.
I wholeheartedly support the Occupy movement but having lived in a socialist country for half of my life I have nothing but strong contempt for socialism. It’s extremely oppressive, it stifles both creativity and productivity and its downward spiral is horrifying.
I personally find it sad that people who have not experienced socialism and have not suffered in the hands of secret police are now raising their voice in support of it.
You speak of the false stigma that envelops socialism and communism. I’m sorry to inform you that it is incorrect.
.
Why are we mad at the 1%? It is for their financial repression.
.
The only way out of financial repression is a system of govt that disallows it, ie – socialism or communism.
.
Now, I understand there are stigmas associated with these systems due to blatant lying on the part of historians, but we must overcome them if we are to ever to truly live harmoniously.

Again, we NEED socialism or a light form of communism.
I’m not talking about a stigma. Stigma is perception, however, I speak of my personal experience of living in a socialist state with communist ideology. I LIVED it and know what I’m talking about. I was also forced to study the theory of communist ideology and Marxism so I know it both from a theoretical and practical aspects.
Socialism cannot exist without oppression, it’s an inherent quality of it. You can ask Cubans about it, they are still living the everyday horrors of the repressive government and empty store shelves. Freedom of speech you are enjoying now does not exist in a socialist or a communist society.
The empty shelves are a direct result of US foreign policy. Have you ever been there? If you had you would know that there are as many positive aspects to their society as there are negatives. Same as ours. Maybe if US didn’t crush them it wouldn’t be so bad and we would have a more true picture on which to base our judgements. Or maybe they don’t want you to see the possibilities. Either way things are not good and all solutions should be explored without prejudice.
Cambodia was a worker’s paradise until the Khmer Rouge was crushed by the imperialist swine from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Latino Voter, I agree with you. I’ve been occupying with all my free time and can tell you that you are not alone. We are not alone. The time has come to explore, unbiasedly, communism. We are doing it now at the occupance and it has been, so far, a success. Communism, as you correctly state it, carries a thousand stigmas. We need to open our minds and explore this option. It might just be what sets us free.
Exploring, unbiasedly, communism sounds to me as good of an option as exploring, unbiasedly, slavery.
I don’t think communism comes in “light.”
I think it’s only Buffalo, barbecue, or honey mustard.
