“OCCUPY WALL STREET” INSPIRES PROTESTS IN BOSTON
*Friday, September 30th, Concerned Citizens Gather for the Kick-off of
Occupy Boston*
The conversation that began on Wall Street on September 17 has swept
northward to Boston, and inspired a powerful national movement. Joining
with nearly 100 actions in cities from Los Angeles to Dallas, Chicago,
and Washington D.C., concerned citizens have come to speak out for
greater economic equality.
Occupy Boston will gather at Dewey Square in Downtown Boston today Friday,
September 30 at 6 p.m., to begin an ongoing protest, discuss the state of
the union and develop out of that discussion a list of specific changes
to ensure our government actually works for the benefit of all citizens.
Planning this event began with a group of over 200 people from all walks
of life who assembled on Boston Common Tuesday evening to discuss taking
action. Paul Harris of the Guardian covered the meeting, saying,“[..]
the people behind Occupy Boston showed a strong dose of media savvy and
organizational skill on [Tuesday] night, as they drew a committed crowd
of volunteers to their cause: to occupy a slice of the city.”
Occupy Boston is the beginning of an ongoing discussion about the problems
with America’s economic system and how it has damaged government and the
fabric of society as a whole. The top 1% owns 50% of the nation’s wealth –
and more importantly, how that wealth is used undermines the founding
principles of America’s democracy.
Through the use of direct democracy, Occupy Boston is working to define
and solve the problems of: an opaque and exclusive government, a Wall
Street without conscience, and a state struggling to guarantee basic
human rights. Everyone is invited to join this conversation about
reforming how business and government operate.
In the coming days and weeks, Occupy Boston will persist in advocating
the need for change, defining the change we need, and reaching out to
policy-makers, business leaders, and the citizens of our Republic in
this mission.
“Our country is owned by the top 1%. We are the 99%.
Join the conversation!”

The media keeps asking what the message is, or reporting that the message is vague. We need to nudge and encourage the media to do some of their own reading, investigating, and evaluating instead of just looking to repeat what protesters or representatives might say (the way they currently tend to simply repeat what a spokesperson, lobbyist, politician, and so forth say on the air, in print, or in public).
Those in the media are part of the 99%, as are their viewers, so they owe it to the viewers to figure out what part of the protesters’ message has merit and substance, and choose what they believe to be is the most important story. Everyone that talks to the media needs to repeat this every time they are given a chance to speak or asked whether or why the message is vague. The story isn’t just the protesters, it’s the underlying issues they raise across all the channels. Look up the demands as they are listed across all the Occupy websites, examine them, investigate them, and report!
That is one of the major problems in this country these days, that is, people are disinclined or unable to do the research to find out what is actually going on and what might be done about it. That takes time and concentration, both of which are in short order in a society which now has a million distractions. Even the reporters who are supposed to be the ones who are professionally trained to do the research and ask the right questions most often don’t do that. So what do we do, those of us who HAVE done the research and have ideas for solutions? Apparently in order to attract attention from the media we must present our perspectives in a dramatic form. We can’t be like Noam Chomsky (whom I of course love and revere) and expect those with short attention spans to follow a long and detailed explanation. We need to present things in simplest form and with some dramatic flair. That will get the attention of the blase media.
Two mind blowing documentaries on YouTube. Must watch.

Secret of oz.
America has been in this battle a long time.
Enjoy and be careful
I saw the “They They They” release. You need simple, obtainable objectives. The other websites are a bit over-ripe, so I will post this here instead. I humbly suggest:
Repeal the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, and re-regulate the banks.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gramm–Leach–Bliley_Act
Re-instate the Posse Comitatus Act, and make it illegal to use US Troops as Law Enforcement again. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posse_Comitatus_Act

Use “tetsuo” formation. Prepare a phalanx surrounding Dewey Square. Use nightsticks and shields. Second formation, prepare another line for tear gas and rubber bullets.
Let’s crush them once and for all!
hehehe…. joke only.
while we are at it, let’s bring some wine and cheese and load up the picnic basket. Let’s pretend we are poor and act like we are homeless. It’s nice to blend in and dream with ordinary folks. And by the way, there are free donuts and coffee (not starbucks though).
finally, we are all getting our 15 minutes of fame. as soon as we get camera exposure, we can all go home to our rich parents and watch ourselves on tv.
Oh… I heard Michael Moore and Susan Sarandon will be dancing the Makarena tonight. Let’s see if we can get Simon and Paula to be judges for the “dance off”.
I hope you people get to eat some bricks. You want to take your issues out on someone, don’t screw with Boston traffic. working people are trying to get home to their families and lives. something you guys don’t have I guess? If you are around Monday I can swing by around lunch and make some of you eat some teeth.
