Members of Occupy Chicago and Stand Up! Chicago gave Wisconsin governor Scott Walker a truly beautiful welcome to their city as he approached the microphone to deliver a speech during a breakfast at the Union League Club of Chicago yesterday. Here’s the video:

Nice!!
public sector unions should be villified. They are worse then the rich evil bankers. This video is proof that it is just Obama 2012 campaign./ We can’t afford the pensions, perks, salaries of public sector unions anymore. Look up Mass cops and firemen, 200k a year work til 50 then cash in on millions. One schmuck lady wants to include her state car and parking space in her pension calculations. Get a clue, union corruption with democrat politicians is part of our problem. You are nothing more then sheep of the machine if you find anything likeable in this video
I personally do not support unions. And Occupy movement is not advocating unionization. Its goals are much broader.
What I really like about this video is the voice of the people. We have a voice now and it’s reaching the corrupt and immoral political establishment in all kinds of places.
That’s what’s really cool about it in my opinion.
Sweet!
That was fucking BRILLIANT!
Rock over London, rock on, Chicago!
What a joke. Fucking losers.
This is great! Occupy takes a page from the Nazis. Free speech is not something that is prized throughout the Occupy movement. Individually conversation is possible but as a group it is very groupthink, cultish, and immature.
Also the smug introduction to this video is a real turnoff. But none of this matters because Occupy will soon be swallowed up by Unions, Progressive democrats and so on… OBAMA IN 2012…
At least the dialogue in this country has shifted toward political and corporate corruption. That’s a positive. But this drowning out of people is pretty base. Maybe it appeals to the under 30 crowd, but I find this sort of protest very disheartening.
Again, in agreement with the goals, but not the tactics. God forbid this movement, as it now stands, should gain any serious political power. We’d have a huge government, be bankrupt in a month, and there’d be blood in the streets.
Not sure why you have this impression about free speech at OB. You can always say anything you want – all you have to do is show up for GA.
You can also contribute by making suggestions – it’s all about people getting together and trying to find solutions to the mess we find ourselves in.
It appears that you are correct about free speech…unless your name is Scott Walker and/or you disapporove of the message.
My problem with comments like Arnie’s and others is that they focus on some small aspect that they disagree with as a way to say the whole movement is invalid. Arnie, before occupy there was NO SIGNIFICANT DIALOGUE going on about these issues. People weren’t talking about it enough to even get to the point of asking whether union protesters are helping or hurting. Dialogue alone makes it worthwhile.
The tactics applied by Occupy are set in stone, are seemingly stuck in the 60s, terribly obstructionist, and–worst of all–lack humor. I’ve been to a GA and found it excruciatingly painful to witness. The plodding pace, the self-righteous cant, the cult-like call and response, and the fumbling for–not exactly a cohesive message–but a cohesive method of effecting change.
I was glad to see the nationwide campaign on using credit unions or local banks. This is something useful and practical.
Regardless of your generous offer, this remains a movement that is bending very far to the left and I know exactly what to expect from the left. They’re more predictable than the right wingers that seem to have no place in the movement either.
If the movement wants to appeal to the 99% it has to grow up. Perhaps with time.
Grow up? Well, you certainly seem mature.
valid points, all around.
Arnie has a perfectly closed system of criticism lacking any holes whatsoever. Guess what Arnie, I agree with your criticisms and guess what else? Occupy could still be the best form of protest ever created in America. IT’S NOT EVEN 2 MONTHS OLD!!!
Your high horse is looking a bit like an Ivory Tower.
Oh you snippy little pumpkin, you…
Appalling behavior – the usual — interrupting, childlike screaming, bullying — as promoted by Democrats and union supporters in my state, Wisconsin. Witnessing this behavior in Wisconsin absolutely enforces my, my family’s, and my friends’ opinions that do not align with liberalism or unionism and it saddens me that the bullying follows our Governor to other states. The actions of those with whom you associate yourself… And we do not associate with anyone who would act as documented in the subject video.
I bet that the bullies, if interrupted at home in the same manner by anyone (either their children or other people), would not act as Mr. Walker, who, I do believe, was not screaming in response or to try to drown out the bullies.
How would bullying another state’s Governor promote or help Illinois liberal and/or union interests or public image? How would bullying your Governor while in another state promote or help your interests or public image?
I predict this comment will be deleted or, if not deleted, replied to in manners that do not match my calm and seriousness. Prove me wrong.
i’d say you’ve been proven wrong. and man, get off your high horse, “match my calm and seriousness,” who are you trying to belittle with that one? scott walker deserved that dressing down, by people who think they were wronged by his policies. scott walker doesn’t care what these people have to say, so they took an opportunity to make sure he heard them loud and clear. was it tactful? not at all. but it also wasn’t meant to be. sometimes you gotta take a hammer upside someone’s head to get them to listen. if “the people’s mic” is as violent as that hammer gets i’d say scott walker was lucky it was so tame.
“Scott Walker deserved that dressing down” …. Didn’t know Obama appointed you “dressing down” czar bro
I suppose dressing up in Indian costumes, invading a private ship, and tossing its cargo overboard strikes you as a more mature form of protest?
Oh, ellenl please tell us how we should protest. Like your forefathers? Like the tea party? Like anti war protesters? Like all the other protests that get ignored. Should we be polite and ask them to stop raping us. Maybe write a curt letter. Do you extend your moralising to the police? Should they stop attacking protesters? Do you even agree with the aims of the protest? Are you happy with the way things are?
i don’t understand people who froth at the mouth about union busting and koch brothers. they sound like 12 year old children and someone just pointed out that superman wears panties ontop of women’s tights.
“dont you dare talk poorly about superman! he saves innocent people!”
